About me

Hello there and welcome to my page. My name is Karen and I am a fully accredited & insured counsellor & psychotherapist working in private practice, in both Lismore, Co. Waterford & Youghal, Co.Cork.

I practice as a person-centered, relational, integrative psychotherapist. While I work primarily from Lismore & Youghal, I also see people online.

I am registered and accredited with the IACP and fully adhere to the IACP Code of Ethics.

On this website, I offer basic information about counselling / psychotherapy, and my own work. Please note, that my practice is currently full, and I am offering a waitlist for new clients.

Counselling and psychotherapy is for anybody. It can be of great support in times of change or crisis. Counselling deals more with immediate issues that may have arisen recently. Psychotherapy tends to deal with deeper, more long-term issues that may be rooted in the past.

I offer a warm, supportive and confidential space for you to explore yourself and any issues that have arisen in your life. Respect and care are core to my work. My priority is to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you.

I am aware how challenging and overwhelming life can be at times. It is my aim to work with you providing the opportunity for reflection, growth and change.

Getting Help

We've all heard the famous adage that 'The first step is the hardest.'

Reaching out to a counsellor is often very difficult for many of us. If you feel you need the help and support of a counsellor please remember that you can do so in a way that you feel comfortable with.

You can email, text, DM or ring a therapist to make that initial contact. Then, let the therapist do the work of arranging the appointment and making sure you feel safe and heard in your first meeting. It's also worth noting that not every therapist will be the right "fit" for you. The initial session is a time where you can decide if you feel this therapist is someone you feel you could work with further.

It might also be worth remembering that your therapist also attends therapy and so had to take that first step once as well!
